Best White Wine of Show at National Wine Show of Australia 2023

Best White Wine of Show at National Wine Show of Australia 2023

We are delighted to announce that Deep Woods Estate 2021 Reserve Chardonnay has been crowned Best White Wine of Show, winning the Len Evans Memorial White Wine of Show Trophy at the National Wine Show of Australia (NWSA) 2023.

The NWSA is Australia’s pinnacle wine awards show that follows a strict qualifying process to determine the best of the best in Australia’s wine show circuit. Chardonnay was a standout at this year's show with Chair of Judges Jim Chatto saying, "[Chardonnay is] a variety that excels right across the country, under many varied growing conditions. Chardonnay from the 2021, 2020 and 2019 vintages did not disappoint, with some great examples out of Beechworth, Mornington, Yarra Valley, Tasmania, Adelaide Hills and Margaret River all vying for the top awards. The strength of the 2021 vintage proven with 9 Gold and 18 Silver medals... A wonderfully poised 2021 Chardonnay taking out the Len Evans Trophy for best White Wine of Show."

The 2021 Deep Woods Reserve Chardonnay stunned judges and was consequently awarded 97 points, Best Chardonnay Trophy and the esteemed Len Evans Memorial White Wine of Show Trophy, which honours the late Len Evans, known as 'the Godfather of Australian wine'.

Chief Winemaker Julian Langworthy said: “We are delighted to win the Chardonnay Trophy and White Wine of Show Trophy at the National Wine Show of Australia – the pinnacle of the Australian wine show judging system. It gives us great satisfaction that our team’s dedication and hard work towards the goal of making the world’s best wines continues to be recognised on a national stage. The Deep Woods Estate Reserve Chardonnay is a truly special wine amidst the dynamic array of amazing Australian Chardonnays currently being produced.”

This win tops off an incredible awards season for the 2021 Deep Woods Reserve Chardonnay, which has been awarded four Trophies and six Gold Medals. From winning the Trophy for Wine of Provenance (2021, 2016 & 2013) at the local Margaret River Wine Show to being named James Suckling’s Number One Australian wine for 2022, this wine is truly remarkable and consistently superb.

Whilst the 2021 Reserve Chardonnay has sold out, we would like to offer our loyal members the chance to secure their allocation of the 2022 Reserve Chardonnay here. This is an online exclusive.

Impressively, Deep Woods also took home the Sauvignon Blanc Trophy and Top Gold Medal for the 2022 Estate Sauvignon Blanc. This Sauvignon Blanc wine includes partial barrel fermentation which adds another dimension, making it more complex and adding texture to the layers of citrus, snow pea and passionfruit notes of the wine.

Congratulations to our winemaking and viticulture teams on this fantastic achievement.
