Sensational Reviews in The Vintage Journal Margaret River Guide 2024
We are very proud to have received some incredible reviews in the recently released The Vintage Journal Margaret River Guide 2024, published by Andrew Caillard MW and Angus Hughson.
The Guide touches on the history of the land from the First Nations people (Wadandi Boodja), to the first European settlers and then on to describe the first grape vine plantings in the early 19th century, and the start of the modern wine industry in the 1960s.
Hughson and Caillard also write about two significant Margaret River clones, the Gin Gin Chardonnay clone and the Houghton Cabernet Sauvignon clone, before describing how Margaret River wines came to attract national and international acclaim through these two varieties.
The authors note how our Cabernet Sauvignon wines have added diversity and interest to the region through our "groundbreaking and high-profile successes", as well as listing us alongside the Margaret River's top Chardonnay producers crafting "exquisite examples" of this variety.
Our reviews in the Guide can be read below:
2022 Reserve Chardonnay
97 Points
Fresh grapefruit, yellow peach, lime aromas with flinty, gun smoke notes. Generous and creamy with abundant ripe yellow fruits, fine chalky textures, some marzipan notes and fresh persistent crunch acidity. Finishes crisp with superb mineral length.
2022 Single Vineyard Chardonnay (not yet released online, available at cellar door)
96 Points
Intense grapefruit, nectarine, flinty aromas and flavours. Classical Margaret River Chardonnay with abundant grapefruit, stone fruit flavours, fine chalky textures, superb mid palate richness, some now oak nuances and well-integrated quartz-like acidity. Al dente at the finish with persistent flinty notes. Very much in the zeitgeist.
2021 Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec
96 Points
Medium-deep crimson. Classical blackcurrant cedar spice aromas with nutmeg notes. Generous and supple with pure sweet fruited cassis, dark chocolate, mocha cedar flavours and persistent fine grained tannins. Lovely volume and balance.
2021 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
95 Points
Medium-deep crimson. Lifted cassis, blackberry aromas with herb garden/hint bush garrigue notes. Richly flavoured with ample dark berry fruits, mocha oak notes and fine loose-knit grainy tannins. Finishes chocolaty and long. Lovely volume, definition and torque.
