Number 41 in the Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wineries 2023

We are very excited to have come in at number 41 in the Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wineries for 2023. This is an inaugural list for the Companion; according to Chief Editor Campbell Mattinson these 100 wineries are "the best Australian producers of now."

Speaking on the reasons behind why Deep Woods Estate was selected, Mattinson said:

"People who know Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay know that Deep Woods Estate makes some of the finest examples in the country – and does so year in, year out. Indeed, when discussion turns to ‘the best of Margaret River’, Deep Woods demands to be part of the conversation. These wines are Margaret River to their pristine back teeth."

This is a huge testament to the incredible team we have here at Deep Woods Estate. From the vineyard to the winery to the bottling line and everyone who works super hard behind the scenes to get our wines in front of reviewers and consumers alike. You know who you are!

"Arm yourself with these names and you can walk into any bottle shop in Australia, or peruse any Australian wine list, and be ripe to pick the eyes from it. These are the producers that, essentially, guarantee that you’ll drink well," Mattinson said. "In short, this is a list of producers who know, in their heart and in their head, that consumers don’t owe them a living. This is a list of producers who are prepared to stake their reputation on every single wine they release."

Current Releases Highly Reviewed in the Halliday Wine Companion

2021 Single Vineyard Chardonnay

"A cool vintage, coupled with the southern growing area of Karridale, has imbued this wine with laser acidity and precise drive in the mouth. With citrus, red apples, white peach, creamy cashews and loads of brine (with some apricot squares through the finish) this provides a startlingly clear view of the 'other' style of Chardonnay that Margaret River does so well. Harnessed volume is converted into superfine layers of taut fruit. It's concentrated, but it's also glass-like, with shards of acidity and chalky phenolics. Very cool."

95 Points, Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion 2023

2021 Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec

"At once powerful yet contained with the varieties (percentage split unknown) beautifully matched. While the classy Cabernet aromas and flavours come through, they are rendered more savoury by the Malbec and oak. The fuller-bodied palate is alive and vibrant, flavours build, and the tannins have presence, all textural and ripe. The finish lingers long as will this wine as in at least two decades."

- 96 Points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2024
