deep woods awarded cabernet of the year in the 2020 halliday wine companion

Chief Winemaker Julian Langworthy was delighted to collect the Cabernet Sauvignon of the Year award on behalf of Deep Woods Estate at the recent Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2020 for the 2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which was awarded a fabulous 99 points.

This is the third year in a row that Julian has done the honours at the event, where he was named Winemaker of the Year in the 2019 awards and collected Cabernet of the Year for the Deep Woods 2014 Grand Selection Yallingup Cabernet Sauvignon in 2018.

On accepting the award, Julian praised the Deep Woods Estate team:

"It is an incredible achievement to win the Halliday Wine Companion Cabernet of the Year for the second time in three years. It demonstrates how the Deep Woods viticulture and winemaking teams are working together to achieve our goal of making the world’s best wines from one of the world’s best wine regions.”

The Deep Woods 2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was one of only 20 wines to be awarded 99 points, from 8775 tasted, and led an exceptional points tally for Deep Woods, with 10 wines awarded 95 points or higher. The winery also retained its 'Five Red Star' rating in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion, recognising an "outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity".
