2021 Redlands Chenin Blanc Crowned Best Chenin in Australia

2021 Redlands Chenin Blanc Crowned Best Chenin in Australia

We are extremely excited that the 2021 Redlands Chenin Blanc has been crowned the Best Chenin Blanc in Australia at the Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge 2023 this week.

The 2021 Redlands Chenin Blanc took home two Trophies for Best Australian Chenin Blanc and Best Table Wine 2021-2020 Vintage, as well as a Gold Medal.

The Chenin Blanc Challenge stamps Australia as a renowned Chenin Blanc producing country, alongside famous regions around the world, such as the Loire Valley, France and South Africa. Judges have the very difficult task of finding Australia’s best Chenin Blanc, particularly given the wide array of wine styles it is capable of producing, from sparkling to dry and textured or sweet.

This award is recognition of the immense quality of Chenin Blanc from Margaret River; the region is producing some serious and site-specific examples of this variety, which Chief Winemaker Julian Langworthy calls "Margaret River’s other great white grape."

He said: "WA is its spiritual home in Australia and Margaret River, as ever, makes some cracking examples.

"It is super exciting to put out a Chenin Blanc under the Deep Woods label. The Redlands Chenin is a lovely example of how diverse and wonderful variety is; the secret is Chenin’s lovely zinging natural acidity. Sourced from the Yallingup Hills, right in the middle of the Deep Woods heartland. Partial barrel fermentation and tank-fermented parcels make for a wine that has great texture but also great freshness. A very versatile wine with a saline and slinky citrus drive. Get amongst it!
